Job Description
This independent contractor role offers flexible hours and consistent supplemental income. The selected physician will provide objective, evidence-based medical necessity determinations for treatment requests and appeals, based on New York Workers’ Compensation guidelines and nationally accepted criteria. The job does not involve any patient interaction or direct treatment. Physicians can work from anywhere and control their availability and workload. Full onboarding and ongoing support are provided, and each case typically takes 15 minutes or less to complete.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Review medical records to assess the necessity of services
Apply state-specific Workers’ Compensation guidelines and other criteria
Provide concise, evidence-based reports and determinations
Meet turnaround requirements (typically within 1–5 business days)
Participate in peer-to-peer consultations as needed
Submit addenda when additional information is available

Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Board Certification in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation
Active, unrestricted New York State medical license
Workers’ Compensation Board Certification (New York)
Active clinical practice
Strong written communication and analytical skills
Self-motivated and able to meet deadlines independently
Previous experience in utilization review is an advantage
