Job Description
Agricado Farms is seeking experienced professionals in Agriculture/Horticulture to join our team!
The Packhouse Supervisor is responsible for overseeing all activities within the farm's packhouse, ensuring that harvested crops are properly sorted, cleaned, processed, packaged, and stored for distribution. This role ensures that packing operations are efficient, products meet quality standards, and the packhouse team adheres to safety and regulatory guidelines.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Supervise Packhouse Operations: Oversee the daily activities in the packhouse, including receiving, sorting, cleaning, packing, and labeling crops. Ensure all tasks are completed efficiently and according to schedule.
Team Management: Lead, train, and supervise a team of packhouse workers, ensuring they understand and follow the procedures for handling and packaging products. Delegate tasks, monitor performance, and maintain a productive working environment.
Quality Control: Monitor the quality of the produce being packed, ensuring that only high-quality, undamaged products are packaged. Implement quality control measures to inspect size, appearance, and ripeness, and ensure compliance with customer specifications and industry standards.
Packaging and Labeling: Ensure that products are packaged in accordance with company standards, including proper labeling, packaging materials, and product specifications. Ensure compliance with any legal or customer-specific packaging requirements.
Inventory Management: Manage inventory of packaging materials, labels, and other necessary supplies. Keep accurate records of stock levels and order materials when needed to avoid shortages.
Safety and Sanitation: Ensure the packhouse complies with health, safety, and sanitation standards. Implement safety protocols, including the proper use of equipment and PPE. Ensure the packhouse is kept clean and organized to prevent contamination or accidents.
Operational Efficiency: Monitor the efficiency of packing operations and identify areas for improvement. Work to streamline processes, reduce waste, and improve productivity.
Record-Keeping and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of daily packing operations, including the quantity of products processed, packing materials used, and any quality issues. Report to farm management on performance, challenges, and any issues that need attention.
Coordination with Other Departments: Collaborate with harvest teams, farm managers, and logistics departments to ensure the timely arrival of produce and the efficient transfer of finished products for distribution.
Staff Training: Train new staff on packing procedures, equipment usage, and safety protocols. Ensure ongoing training for current team members to maintain high standards and keep up with new technologies or packing methods.
Compliance and Regulation: Ensure all packhouse operations comply with local, state, and federal regulations, including food safety laws, labor laws, and environmental guidelines. Keep up to date with any changes in regulations that affect packing operations.
Problem Solving: Address any operational issues, including equipment malfunctions, quality control problems, or staffing challenges. Work quickly to resolve issues and minimize disruptions to packing schedules.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Job Requirements:
Diploma/Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture/Horticulture
Experience with vegetable production (peppers & other Solanaceous vegetables)
Proficiency in English, Luganda, and/or Kiswahili
Willingness to live on a remote farm
Experience: At least 2-3 years of experience in a packhouse or food processing environment, with previous supervisory experience preferred.
Knowledge: Strong understanding of packing processes, quality control, and agricultural product handling. Knowledge of food safety standards (e.g., HACCP) is a plus.
Leadership: Proven ability to lead and manage a team, with excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Attention to Detail: High attention to detail, especially when inspecting products for quality and ensuring compliance with packaging standards.
Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to identify operational problems and quickly implement solutions to maintain packing efficiency.
Physical Stamina: Ability to work in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment. Willingness to stand, walk, and lift boxes during extended periods.
Time Management: Strong time management skills with the ability to oversee multiple tasks and priorities, ensuring all operations are completed on time.
Safety Awareness: Understanding of safety protocols in a food processing or packhouse environment and the ability to enforce them.
