Agricado Farms is seeking experienced professionals in Agriculture/Horticulture to join our team!

The Orchard Supervisor (Avocado) is responsible for managing all activities related to the care, maintenance, and harvesting of avocado trees in the orchard. This includes overseeing planting, irrigation, fertilization, pest and disease control, pruning, and harvesting, ensuring that all operations are carried out efficiently and according to best agricultural practices.

  • Oversee Orchard Operations: Supervise daily activities in the avocado orchard, including planting, irrigation, fertilization, pruning, pest and disease management, and harvesting.

  • Team Management: Lead and manage a team of orchard workers, providing training, assigning tasks, and ensuring that all work is completed safely and efficiently. Ensure workers follow farm safety standards and protocols.

  • Monitor Orchard Health: Regularly inspect the orchard to monitor tree health and growth, looking for signs of disease, pest damage, nutrient deficiencies, or water stress. Take necessary action to address any issues.

  • Irrigation Management: Manage irrigation schedules and ensure that the avocado trees receive the appropriate amount of water at different growth stages. Oversee the maintenance and operation of the irrigation system.

  • Fertilization and Nutrient Management: Develop and implement fertilization programs based on soil tests and crop needs. Ensure that trees are properly fed to promote healthy growth and fruit production.

  • Pest and Disease Control: Monitor and manage pest and disease control programs. Apply pesticides, fungicides, and other treatments as necessary while ensuring safety standards and sustainability.

  • Pruning and Tree Care: Supervise regular pruning to maintain tree shape and improve airflow for healthy fruit development. Ensure proper care of trees during all stages of growth.

  • Harvest Supervision: Plan and oversee the avocado harvest, ensuring that the fruit is harvested at the right time for optimal quality and yield. Coordinate the harvest team and ensure proper handling and storage of the fruit.

  • Record Keeping and Reporting: Keep accurate records of orchard activities, including planting dates, irrigation schedules, pest treatments, fertilization, and harvest outcomes. Prepare and submit regular reports to farm management on orchard status and crop yield.

  • Equipment Maintenance: Ensure that all orchard tools and equipment (pruners, tractors, irrigation systems, etc.) are properly maintained and available for use. Coordinate with maintenance teams for repairs and upkeep.

  • Safety and Compliance: Ensure that all orchard operations comply with safety regulations, environmental guidelines, and legal standards. Ensure that workers are trained on safe pesticide handling, equipment use, and general orchard safety.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with farm management, agronomists, and other departments to plan and optimize orchard practices and ensure alignment with overall farm goals.

  • Research and Innovation: Stay updated on best practices in avocado cultivation and new technologies that could improve orchard management, crop yield, and sustainability.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies

Job Requirements:

  • Diploma/Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture/Horticulture

  • Experience with vegetable production (peppers & other Solanaceous vegetables)

  • Proficiency in English, Luganda, and/or Kiswahili

  • Willingness to live on a remote farm


  • Experience: At least 2-3 years of experience in orchard management, preferably in avocado farming or a related crop.

  • Knowledge: Strong understanding of avocado tree care, including irrigation, pest management, fertilization, pruning, and harvesting techniques.

  • Leadership: Ability to lead, manage, and motivate a team of workers, ensuring efficient operation and high productivity.

  • Technical Skills: Experience with farm equipment, irrigation systems, pest control tools, and orchard maintenance.

  • Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to diagnose issues with tree health, water management, pest infestations, or other challenges and take appropriate corrective actions.

  • Physical Stamina: Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and participate in physical labor when needed.

  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills for team coordination, reporting, and interaction with management.

  • Attention to Detail: Careful observation and monitoring of tree health, water usage, and pest control efforts to ensure the highest quality fruit.
