Job Description
The NDE Specialist will support the Construction & Quality Welding and NDT functions by overseeing the daily welding and NDT activities conducted by contractors on the EACOP project. Working in collaboration with Welding and NDT Field Engineering teams, the role involves developing and implementing a Welding and NDT Qualification Management Strategy (WQMS), ensuring work aligns with project codes, standards, and specifications.
This position includes technical evaluation of contractor methods, supervision of NDT equipment and personnel, documentation review, compliance checks, quality audits, and progress reporting. The NDE Specialist will play a key role in ensuring safe, effective, and compliant welding and inspection activities during the pipeline and facility construction phases.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Support contractor teams in achieving delivery of pipeline and Above Ground Installations (AGI).
Develop and implement Welding and NDT Qualification Management Systems (WQMS).
Ensure safe working practices are followed on all project sites.
Collaborate with contractors to interpret procedures and resolve technical challenges.
Evaluate contractor method statements, work procedures, and documentation.
Monitor adherence to welding, material handling, and inspection standards.
Coordinate inspections, ITPs, and hold points with the Construction Quality Lead.
Verify training and qualifications of NDT and welding personnel.
Oversee maintenance of NDT equipment and welding tools.
Monitor welding repairs, test results, and non-conformance trends.
Ensure effective material tracking (pipes, joints, consumables, etc.).
Assist in root cause analysis for welding issues.
Review contractor/vendor documentation and conduct audits.
Liaise with quality management and report on status, non-conformances, and inspections.
Contribute to daily reports, punch list resolutions, and dossier compilation.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Education and Certifications:
Degree in Engineering or related technical discipline.
CSWIP 3.1 or equivalent certification (mandatory).
ISO 9712 or ASNT CP-189 certification in NDT methods (UT, RT, MT, PT) is an advantage.
Experience:
Minimum of 3 years in a similar role on large-scale construction projects, preferably in Oil & Gas.
Extensive field experience in welding, NDT, and piping systems.
Familiarity with international codes (ASME, API, AWS) and industry best practices.
Experience reviewing welding/NDT data, test results, and contractor performance.
Skills and Competencies:
Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio).
Knowledge of WPQR and WPS qualification standards.
Skilled in NDE techniques and reviewing related reports.
Effective communicator with experience managing multicultural contractor teams.
Ability to interpret drawings, understand project schedules, and meet deadlines.
Self-motivated, analytical, detail-oriented, and results-driven.
