Job Description
The Line Manager will oversee daily operations at the Meltshop, manage the team to meet production goals, analyze causes of downtime, communicate plans effectively, and liaise with senior management and service departments. The position requires strong leadership in implementing maintenance schedules, ensuring health and safety compliance, managing shift handovers, preparing reports, and promoting high-quality workmanship. Candidates must be able to lead, motivate teams, and work under challenging conditions, ensuring adherence to OHS regulations and company policies.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Manage Meltshop team to achieve production targets.
Minimize non-productive time and analyze downtime reasons.
Communicate operating plans and company policies.
Attend daily production meetings and coordinate with Engineering.
Ensure task completion related to housekeeping and safety.
Evaluate PTO’s, initiate corrective actions, and record outcomes.
Empower teams through guidance and performance management.
Enforce safety practices, including issuing PPE and conducting inspections.
Coordinate with service departments to minimize production/safety risks.
Compile detailed shift reports.
Implement cleaning and maintenance schedules.
Conduct thorough shift handovers and ensure proper reporting.
Work overtime as needed to meet operational requirements.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Qualifications:
Matric (with Mathematics compulsory).
Tertiary education in metallurgical or chemical industry (advantageous).
Computer literacy (Microsoft Office).
Experience:
Minimum 8 years in a production or mechanical environment.
Competencies:
Strong aptitude for science and mathematics.
Basic mechanical and electrical engineering knowledge.
Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills.
Ability to lead and motivate teams.
Knowledge of Health & Safety regulations.
Physically fit and in good health.
Ability to work independently and under challenging conditions.
