Job Description
The role involves overseeing the registration and licensing of insurance intermediaries, monitoring compliance with the Insurance Act and related regulations, enforcing penalties and directives, and maintaining accurate records of inspections and enforcement actions. The Manager will also lead the development and implementation of supervisory policies and procedures, provide strategic direction to staff, and ensure the effective supervision of intermediaries under statutory management.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Formulate practices to ensure fair market practices in the industry.
Develop policy guidelines and regulations for the supervision of the insurance industry.
Review recommendations on licensing and approvals for insurance intermediaries.
Oversee the development and implementation of strategies for effective supervision of intermediaries under statutory management.
Coordinate various regulatory approvals as required under the Insurance Act.
Monitor and enforce penalties, restrictions, directives, and other requirements of the Insurance Act.
Maintain accurate information on all investigations, inspections, and enforcement actions.
Lead analysis and preparation of reports on acquisitions, transfers, and mergers within the insurance industry.
Prepare reports on stakeholder engagements for capacity building and emerging issues in supervision.
Monitor the remittance of premium levy.
Enforce sanctions as provided for under the Insurance Act to ensure market discipline.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Master’s degree in Statistics, Insurance, Finance, Risk Management, Economics, Law, Business Administration, Commerce, or its equivalent.
Bachelor’s degree in Insurance, Economics, Commerce, Business Administration.
Minimum KCSE B or its equivalent.
Professional qualifications in Insurance or Accounting (ACII/AIIK/FLMI/CPA).
Nine (9) years of relevant experience.
Registered member of a recognized professional body in Kenya.
Management course lasting not less than four (4) weeks.
Meets the provisions of Chapter Six of the Constitution.
Strong communication and reporting skills.
Strong analytical and numerical skills.
Strong organization and interpersonal skills.
Mentoring, coaching, and leadership skills.
Conflict management abilities.
Ability to work under pressure, prioritize, and multi-task.
