Job Description
The Consultant will be responsible for a multi-component assignment involving the review of climate risk assessments, integration of climate adaptation strategies into General Management Plans (GMPs), capacity building for protected area (PA) managers, and co-authoring a practical guide for climate change integration in PA management. Key components include:
Desk-based Review: Review climate risk assessments and engage CAPA technical experts to inform the consultancy outputs.
Support GMP Development – Bwindi National Park: Contribute to stages 2–9 of the GMP process, ensuring climate considerations are included throughout.
Support GMP Development – Rwenzori Mountains National Park: Conduct end-of-term GMP review (2016–2026) and contribute to the new GMP (2027–2037) development with a focus on climate change, gender, and conflict.
Training Design and Delivery: Assess training needs and co-develop and deliver a practical, targeted training program for PA managers in the Greater Virunga Landscape (GVL) and the Kavango Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation Area (KAZA).
Guidance Document: Co-develop a user-friendly, evidence-based document for PA managers on integrating climate adaptation into PA planning and management.

How to Apply
Conduct literature and document reviews on climate risks and adaptation in target landscapes.
Collaborate with WWF and CAPA technical teams to contextualize climate and biodiversity vulnerabilities.
Provide expert input into the GMP development processes for Bwindi and Rwenzori National Parks.
Develop and deliver training for PA managers on climate adaptation strategies.
Conduct capacity gap assessments and stakeholder consultations.
Draft, review, and finalize training modules and resources.
Co-develop and validate a guidance document for integrating climate change into PA management.
Ensure integration of gender equality and social inclusion (GESI) principles throughout the project.
Education:
Master’s Degree (PhD preferred) in Climate Change, Environmental Science, Protected Area Management, or a relevant field.
Experience:
Minimum 15 years in climate change-related work, including risk assessments and adaptation planning.
Proven experience designing and delivering capacity-building/training programs in climate change and conservation.
Strong background in developing strategic or action plans, preferably in environmental management.
Understanding of GESI issues in conservation contexts.
Prior work experience in KAZA and/or GVL is an asset.
Skills and Competencies:
Excellent stakeholder engagement and facilitation skills.
Proficient in developing and presenting technical materials to diverse audiences.
Ability to synthesize scientific and practical knowledge into actionable plans and documents.
High-level writing, reporting, and communication skills.
