Job Description
This position focuses on ensuring the proper functioning of water distribution systems through both preventative and corrective maintenance. The Maintenance Officer performs a wide range of technical tasks such as pigging and flushing pipelines, calculating and installing flow limits, and conducting volumetric tests. Additional responsibilities include interacting with clients, maintaining infrastructure, and performing welding and bush clearing. The successful candidate will be expected to work on standby, engage in problem-solving, and collaborate with operations management to ensure efficient service delivery.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Conduct routine and precautionary maintenance on water distribution networks
Perform pigging and flushing of pipelines
Service pressure relief and reduction valves
Repair pipeline breaks and leaks
Clean water reservoirs
Maintain air valves, taps, and pressure adjustment valves
Install flow limitation devices and perform water meter volumetric tests
Take water samples for lab analysis (physical, chemical, bacteriological)
Monitor and control the water network
Handle client queries and ensure satisfactory resolution
Install and read new water connections and meters
Clear vegetation from servitudes
Assist in maintenance of pumps and motors
Perform welding tasks
Manage stock control and ensure availability of tools and parts
Perform ‘orrificing’ for regulated water delivery to clients
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Minimum Requirements:
Grade 12 (Matric)
Code 08 Driver’s License
At least 3 years of relevant work experience
Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Willingness to work on standby duty
