Location: Head Office, Kampala
We are currently seeking a dynamic, qualified, and passionate individual to join our growing team in the role of Legal Officer.
Role Purpose
The Legal Officer will provide expert legal support to Umoja Microfinance Uganda, ensuring full compliance with Ugandan laws and industry regulations. This position plays a critical role in safeguarding the institution’s interests, managing legal risks, and upholding our mission of financial inclusion.

How to Apply
Legal Advisory: Provide legal guidance to management and staff on matters related to contracts, loans, employment, and regulatory compliance.
Contract Management: Draft, review, and manage legal documents to ensure alignment with laws and company policies.
Litigation & Dispute Resolution: Represent the institution in legal proceedings, manage litigation cases, and coordinate with external counsel.
Debt Recovery: Lead legal aspects of the debt recovery process to minimize risk and financial loss.
Regulatory Compliance: Monitor and enforce compliance with legal and regulatory requirements affecting microfinance operations.
Documentation & Reporting: Maintain organized legal records, ensure timely renewals of licenses, and provide regular reports to management.
Training & Awareness: Conduct legal training and awareness sessions to strengthen organizational risk management and compliance.
Other Duties: Perform any other responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.
Minimum Requirements:
Education: Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from a recognized university.
Certification: Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre.
Licensing: Enrolled Advocate of the High Court of Uganda with a valid practicing certificate.
Experience: At least 2 years of legal experience, preferably in a financial institution or microfinance environment.
Key Skills:
Strong legal drafting, negotiation, and research abilities
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and legal research platforms
High levels of integrity, attention to detail, and professionalism
Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks under pressure
Analytical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities
Willingness to travel on short notice when required
