Job Opportunity: Legal Officer (1 Position)

Reports To: Supervisor, Legal Services

Position Overview
Posta Uganda is seeking a qualified and dynamic Legal Officer to support the management of its legal affairs, represent the organization in legal matters, and uphold compliance with applicable laws and regulations. The successful candidate will assist in defending the organization's interests, ensuring sound legal advice, and maintaining a professional legal and corporate image.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Provide legal advice on civil and criminal matters, and identify, interview, and guide relevant witnesses.
Conduct legal research to support the preparation and execution of cases involving the organization.
Liaise with external counsel by providing timely and accurate information for effective case management.
Represent Posta Uganda in courts of law, tribunals, and labour dispute forums, ensuring compliance with HR and organizational policies.
Draft legal documents as directed by the Supervisor, Legal Services.
Interpret legal documents and offer legal awareness to staff across departments.
Prepare and submit weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports on legal matters to the supervisor.
Attend management committee meetings in the absence of the Manager, Legal Services.
Handle legal correspondences and perform other duties as assigned.
Key Performance Indicators
Resolution of pending legal and court cases.
Timely submission of legal progress and milestone reports.
High standards of legal compliance across the organization.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Bachelor of Laws (LLB) – Honors
Diploma in Legal Practice
Must be an enrolled advocate of the High Court with at least two (2) years of post-enrollment experience
Minimum of two (2) years of relevant professional experience
Required Competencies
Strong legal research and analytical skills
Excellent communication, organization, and public relations abilities
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic legal software tools
High level of professionalism, confidentiality, and attention to detail
