Job Description
The Legal Assistant will be based at the UN-Habitat headquarters in Nairobi, working under the supervision of the Chief Legal Officer. The successful candidate will assist in reviewing and preparing legal documents, maintaining case files and legal databases, conducting research, and facilitating communication between internal departments and external partners. This role requires attention to detail, confidentiality, and the ability to manage multiple legal and administrative tasks.

How to Apply
Assist in drafting legal documents and correspondence such as contracts, MOUs, and agreements
Conduct legal research on a wide range of topics and summarize findings for the legal team
Organize and maintain legal case files, documents, and databases
Track the status of ongoing legal matters and ensure deadlines are met
Coordinate with internal departments and external stakeholders to obtain or relay legal information
Review incoming correspondence and route to appropriate legal officers
Assist in organizing legal meetings and preparing minutes or summaries
Support in the review of legal texts and identify areas requiring legal attention
Assist with preparation of reports for internal and external use
Education:
Completion of secondary education is required
Supplementary training in law, paralegal studies, or related field is desirable
Experience:
A minimum of 5 years of experience in legal assistance, paralegal support, or administrative roles within a legal environment is required
Experience in the UN system or an international organization is an advantage
Competencies:
Strong knowledge of legal terminology, document formatting, and legal research techniques
Excellent organizational and time-management skills
Strong written and verbal communication skills
High degree of integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism
Proficiency in MS Office and legal database tools
Languages:
Fluency in English is required
Knowledge of another UN language is an advantage
