Kyambogo University is the second largest Public University in Uganda. Since its formation in 2003, the University has established itself as one of the leading Universities in Uganda offering a number of academic programmes in line with vocational education, teacher training, hands-on engineering, special needs training, social sciences, pure and applied sciences, entrepreneurship and management that meet the market demands and development needs of the Country. The Strategic Focus Areas of the University include: Teaching and Learning: Research, Innovation and Knowledge Generation; Physicalfrastructure, Facilities and ICT Development, Institutional evelopment and Strategic Marketing.
In order to achieve its mission and strategic goals, the University invites applications from suitably qualified persons to fill the Teaching positions in the disciplines listed hereunder on permanent terms.

  • Teaching: Deliver undergraduate and graduate-level courses in statistics, probability theory, data analysis, and related topics. Develop course materials, including lectures, assignments, exams, and projects, to effectively convey statistical concepts and methodologies to students.

  • Curriculum Development: Contribute to the development and revision of the statistics curriculum, ensuring alignment with industry standards, emerging trends, and the needs of students and employers. Integrate innovative teaching methods, technologies, and real-world examples into course content.

  • Research: Conduct scholarly research in statistics, probability, or applied areas of statistics, leading to publications in peer-reviewed journals, presentations at conferences, and securing external research funding. Collaborate with colleagues and students on research projects and mentor undergraduate and graduate student research.

  • Student Advising: Provide academic advising and mentorship to undergraduate and graduate students pursuing degrees or certificates in statistics. Assist students with course selection, career planning, research opportunities, and graduate school applications.

  • Service: Serve on departmental and university committees, participate in faculty meetings, and contribute to departmental governance, program assessment, and accreditation activities. Engage in professional service activities, such as reviewing manuscripts, serving on editorial boards, and volunteering for professional organizations.

  • Community Engagement: Engage with the broader community, including industry partners, government agencies, and nonprofit organizations, to promote the application of statistical methods to address real-world problems. Collaborate on interdisciplinary research projects and outreach initiatives that demonstrate the value of statistics to society.

  • Professional Development: Stay current with advancements in statistical theory, methodology, and applications through ongoing professional development activities, including attending conferences, workshops, and seminars.   • Education: A minimum of a master's degree in statistics, biostatistics, or a closely related field is typically required for a lecturer position in statistics. A doctoral degree (Ph.D.) is preferred for tenure-track positions and may be required for certain institutions or specialized roles.

  • Teaching Experience: Previous experience teaching statistics courses at the undergraduate or graduate level is highly desirable. Candidates should demonstrate effective communication skills, a passion for teaching, and the ability to engage students in statistical concepts and methods.

  • Research Skills: Demonstrated research expertise in statistics, probability, or applied areas of statistics, evidenced by a strong publication record, presentations at conferences, and participation in research projects. Candidates should have the potential to develop an independent research program and secure external funding.

  • Statistical Proficiency: Proficiency in statistical theory, methodology, and software tools commonly used in data analysis, such as R, SAS, Python, or SPSS. Candidates should possess a solid understanding of statistical techniques, experimental design, hypothesis testing, and regression analysis.

  • Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues from different disciplines, such as mathematics, computer science, economics, biology, or social sciences, to address complex problems using statistical approaches.

  • Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, to convey statistical concepts to students, colleagues, and external stakeholders. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and interact professionally with diverse audiences.
