Job Title: Lead Trainer – Every Child Can Learn
Location: Gulu District, Northern Uganda
Reports To: Project Coordinator
Supervises: Trainers and Trainees
Contract Type: 36 months (starting 1st December 2025)

About the Every Child Can Learn Project
From 2026 to 2028, Backup Uganda will implement the Every Child Can Learn project in Omoro, Kitgum, and Nwoya Districts. The project seeks to strengthen inclusive, high-quality education for all children in Uganda by establishing a sustainable support system for primary school learners.
To achieve this, we will:
Build capacity among teachers, administrators, parents, and caregivers to identify and support learners with learning difficulties and disabilities at 30 primary schools.
Enhance coordination among district, city, and municipal education and health officials, as well as health facility representatives, for effective referral and specialist assistance.
Promote inclusion by supporting learners to create and maintain inclusive learning and social environments within their schools.
Position Summary
The Lead Trainer will play a key role in advancing inclusive education by strengthening the capacity of educators, parents, and organizations to support learners with learning difficulties and disabilities. You will lead a team of trainers and trainees, design and conduct training sessions, mentor educators, raise community awareness, and assist NGOs in integrating inclusive approaches into their work.
You will also contribute to the development, implementation, and evaluation of training programs to ensure their quality, effectiveness, and sustainability.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Train and mentor teachers, student teachers, Teacher Training Institute tutors, and local education and health representatives in identifying, supporting, and referring learners with learning difficulties and disabilities.
Raise awareness among parents and community members about diverse learning needs and individualized support.
Support NGOs and partner organizations in integrating inclusive education practices into their projects.
Assist in the design, organization, and facilitation of trainings, workshops, and mentorship sessions.
Participate in monitoring and evaluation (M&E) activities for all training and capacity-building initiatives.
Supervise Frostig trainees and other volunteers within the program section.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Bachelor’s degree in Education or Special Needs/Inclusive Education from a recognized Ugandan university.
Minimum of 3 years’ experience in facilitating trainings and workshops.
At least 2 years’ experience leading teams.
Proficiency in computer skills and basic knowledge of monitoring and evaluation.
Excellent command of written and spoken English (knowledge of Luo is an added advantage).
Demonstrated passion for inclusive education and commitment to child-centered learning.
Strong integrity, professionalism, and ability to work effectively in a team.
