Land Rights Officer job at ZOA Uganda

ZOA Uganda is recruiting a Land Rights Officer based first in Kabale and then moving to Mbale, to support the delivery of trainings at district and sub county levels, in order to build capacity on customary land registration processes, in close cooperation with Master Trainers.
Project specific details: The overarching objective of the A-GRIP project is to contribute to: “Strengthened, food secure and resilient farming systems through increased accessibility, availability and quality of land tenure security, agriculture and food security services in 16 selected districts of the Busoga, Elgon, Kigezi, Lango, and Rwenzori regions in Uganda”. The A-GRIP project uses a Results Based Financing (RBF) approach.
The capacity development activities (under outcome area 1 of the A-GRIP project) will be implemented by ZOA. ZOA has a strong track record in delivering land rights projects in northern Uganda,
Capacity development for customary land management is a prerequisite for the RBF roll-out to be a success. Capacities will be developed at district and sub county levels to fulfil their roles in awareness creation, conflict mediation, land registration and administration. Master Trainers will be assigned to deliver the actual training, with support from the ZOA Land Rights Capacity Development team in the first two years of the project (expected to run from November 2023-October 2025).
Confirmation of contract is pending donor approval/funding.
Project specific
Support delivery of training on land registration processes with sub county and district staff. The training itself is delivered by Master Trainers. Support will include ensuring all practical steps and logistics to ensure the training happens, including arranging catering, supplies and other service provision;
Stakeholder coordination to support the smooth roll out of the training and mobilisation of relevant people for trainings;
Quality assurance to ensure the trainings meet project expectations and needs;
Reporting on and monitoring activities, for the region, reporting any challenges, issues and achievements on a regular basis
Reporting
Record keeping and submitting MEAL data into the project database, in coordination with the MEAL Officer;
Provide inputs to implementation plans and activity/monthly reports.
General
Implements project activities in line with the project proposal to achieve optimal project outputs and outcomes in line with ZOA/donor procedures and targets;
Understand ZOA’s code of conduct and safeguarding policies, ensure adherence to these policies and that project activities are implemented with a “Do No Harm” approach
Accountability
Sensitize all stakeholders (beneficiaries, service providers, partners, government and
other) on feedback and complaint mechanisms implemented by ZOA Uganda
Upon receipt of a complaint or feedback, ensure that it is correctly documented following
correct reporting procedures

Diploma or degree in Law, Land Management, Social Science, Social work, or related fields
At least 2 years of experience in a similar position implementing projects with training and capacity development components;
Technical knowledge of customary land ownership processes, alternative dispute resolution (ADR) at community level is a plus;
Understanding of the local context, culture, and language(s) in the project implementation area is a plus.
Skills:
Excellent communication skills – verbal and written in English;
Innovative, creative and enthusiastic;
Result oriented and possession of learning power.
Good computer skills: Ms Excel and Ms Word;
Self-motivator, able to take initiatives with limited supervision;
Ability to drive a motorcycle with valid driving/riding license is a must. This will be checked at interview stage.
Language skills in relevant local languages of the regions where implementation will take place is a plus.
