About the Organisation
The Infectious Diseases Research Collaboration (IDRC) is a non-profit research organization. IDRC conducts research on infectious diseases including Malaria, HIV and Tuberculosis. Our studies have led to more than 500 publications and have impacted the management of infectious diseases in Uganda.
IDRC was established in May 2008 by Ugandan health scientists from Makerere University College of Health Sciences and the Uganda Ministry of Health.

Job Description
Collect and prepare field samples according to standard guidelines for transportation from the study site to research laboratory facilities.
Duties and Responsibilities
Identify potential study participants and screen them for consenting and recruitment into the study.
Perform malaria parasite culturing and assay experiments.
Perform molecular and genetic experiments.
Perform Malaria microscopy and record results according to the standard Laboratory techniques as laid down by the W.H.O guidelines.
Recruit patients into the study using Good Clinical and Laboratory guidelines as described in the study protocols.
Collect and prepare field samples according to standard guidelines for transportation from the study site to research laboratory facilities.
Keep all records of laboratory activities and inventory of all laboratory equipment and supplies.
Performing laboratory quality assurance for all laboratory procedures
Qualifications and Competencies
BSc degree in Biomedical Lab technology or Biochemistry.
Prior diploma in Lab technology is an added advantage.
Specialized skills in Malaria parasite cultures, Parasite ring survival assays and culture adaptation experiments and drug assays is an added advantage.
Prior training or working experience of at least one year in malaria parasite collections, Isolation, culturing and sensitivity assays is an added advantage.
Must be registered with Allied Health Professionals’ Council.
Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
Reputable computer skills in MS Packages. Key Result Areas/Outputs
Resilience in work ethic; Laboratory-based quality management objectives and institutional goals achieved.
Standard operating procedures that are in line with study objectives are developed and implemented.
Competence in all laboratory tests and instruments used in the parasitology research laboratory with no supervision.
Ensure new equipment and devices that are introduced in the laboratory during your term of service are validated and verified.
Ensure reliability, quality and integrity of laboratory and patient data.
Routinely collect study data and ensure it is analyzed, verified and properly uploaded to the right databases.
Uniformity of the performance of specific functions across all sections of the laboratory
Ensure that patient and study information is kept confidential at all times
