Job Description

The Aga Khan Academy Nairobi is operated by Aga Khan Education Service Kenya (AKESK), a non-profit organization with close to a hundred years of experience operating schools in Kenya. AKESK currently operates 11 schools in Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, and Eldoret, serving close to 5,000 students with quality, holistic education.

Role Summary

The Kiswahili Teacher will plan, deliver, and assess engaging Kiswahili language lessons for nursery and early primary learners. The role focuses on building a strong foundation in language fluency, literacy, and communication while nurturing an appreciation for Kiswahili culture through interactive and age-appropriate learning approaches. The teacher will create stimulating classroom experiences using songs, storytelling, play-based learning, and collaborative activities that support early language acquisition.

Duties, Roles and Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging Kiswahili lessons that promote language fluency, literacy, and cultural appreciation
  • Develop lesson plans, teaching aids, and instructional materials appropriate for early learners
  • Incorporate interactive learning approaches such as songs, storytelling, and play-based activities
  • Provide individualized support to learners, including non-native Kiswahili speakers
  • Assess learner progress through formative and summative assessments and provide constructive feedback
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and prepare reports for parents and school leadership
  • Collaborate with colleagues to enhance language instruction and share teaching resources
  • Support co-curricular activities such as cultural programs, music, poetry, and storytelling initiatives
  • Participate in school meetings, professional development sessions, and collaborative planning activities
