Job Description

The Junior Accountant (Accounting Associate) will play a key role in the day-to-day financial operations of PHR’s Kenya office, specifically supporting accounting responsibilities aligned with U.S. standards. The ideal candidate will be experienced in nonprofit accounting, possess familiarity with U.S. tax and audit processes, and demonstrate advanced proficiency with accounting software including Sage Intacct, Bill.com, and Spend and Expense. This role will require working hours that align closely with U.S. Eastern Standard Time. The accountant will collaborate with the U.S.-based finance team to ensure timely, compliant, and accurate financial reporting and contribute to organizational audits and budget tracking.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field

Experience:

  • At least 2 years of relevant accounting experience

  • Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and nonprofit financial operations

  • Experience in U.S. nonprofit audits and IRS Form 990 is an advantage

Skills and Competencies:

  • Proficiency in accounting systems including Sage Intacct, Bill.com, and Spend and Expense
