Job Description
ZTE Uganda is seeking a highly skilled IP Operations Engineer to support, maintain, and optimize mission‑critical IP, Core, and Data Network systems across the organization. This role is central to ensuring network reliability, scalability, and security across IP/MPLS, Core Network interfaces, and ISP services.
As an IP Operations Engineer, you will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of a wide range of network infrastructure including routers, firewalls, switches, virtual machines, storage systems, and 3GPP Core elements (MME, SGW, PGW, SGSN, GGSN). You will manage BGP global connectivity, design and maintain IP/MPLS networks, and support Core network integration for 2G/3G/4G/5G services. The role also includes provisioning ISP services, managing DNS/Email systems, ensuring proactive fault management, and maintaining strong network security practices. This is a critical, high-impact position requiring advanced technical depth and the ability to troubleshoot complex multi-vendor environments.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain routers, firewalls, Ethernet switches, servers, VMs, load balancers, and storage systems
- Maintain and troubleshoot 3GPP Core components: GGSN, SGSN, MME, SGW, PGW
- Provision and maintain BGP global connectivity
- Design, deploy, and optimize IP/MPLS networks with a focus on scalability and reliability
- Integrate and support Core voice/data connectivity across 2G/3G/4G/5G architectures
- Provision and maintain fixed access services (Internet, leased lines, voice)
- Support ISP services including DNS and Email platforms
- Perform fault management, configuration management, and proactive capacity planning
- Ensure strong system security by identifying and remediating vulnerabilities
- Maintain technical documentation, metrics, and operational procedures
