Job Description
The intern will be based in Nairobi, Kenya, and support the LHSS in its efforts to develop global norms, frameworks, and knowledge tools that enhance equitable access to land, adequate housing, and urban regeneration. Reporting to the Programme Management Officer and the Chief of LHSS, the intern will be engaged in collecting and analyzing data, conducting policy mapping, organizing events, supporting community of practice activities, and assisting in knowledge platform management.
This is a full-time, unpaid internship lasting up to six months. Some remote work flexibility may be allowed based on visa and travel conditions.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Conduct data collection, literature review, and policy mapping on housing and human security.
Support the development and organization of knowledge materials and contribute to project monitoring.
Assist in organizing meetings, trainings, and events related to housing and security.
Track and document global housing-related developments, including cross-cutting issues.
Assist in preparing concept notes and proposals for resource mobilization.
Contribute to communication and advocacy activities under the LHS Community of Practice (CoP).
Support the development and maintenance of the knowledge management system for LHS CoP.
Conduct thematic research and mapping for CoP content development.
Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Education:Applicants must meet one of the following criteria at the time of application:
Be enrolled in a graduate programme (Master’s or equivalent);
Be enrolled in the final year of a first university degree programme (Bachelor’s or equivalent);
Have recently graduated with a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. degree.
Preferred Areas of Study:Housing Studies, Urban Development, Human Security, or related social sciences.
Skills and Competencies:
Strong research, analytical, and writing skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel).
Keen interest in UN-Habitat's mission and values.
Ability to work effectively in multicultural environments.
Familiarity with land management and housing policy is required.
Experience in technical writing is desirable.
