Job Description
The intern will work under the Public Space and Spatial Analysis portfolio and will assist in a variety of tasks, including research, data collection and analysis, preparation of maps and visual materials, and drafting of reports and case studies. This role will be hybrid, based in Nairobi, Kenya, and is suited for individuals interested in spatial planning, geographic information systems (GIS), public policy, and sustainable urban development. Interns will also support UN-Habitat’s work on improving public spaces and promoting inclusive urban environments.

How to Apply
Assist in spatial data collection, cleaning, and analysis for public space projects
Support the development of spatial visualizations and maps using GIS software
Conduct literature reviews and research on urban planning and public space practices
Contribute to the preparation of project reports, presentations, and policy briefs
Collaborate with local and international teams in the execution of public space interventions
Support the organization of workshops, webinars, and stakeholder consultations
Assist in monitoring and evaluating public space initiatives and related indicators
Academic Qualifications:
Enrolled in or recently graduated from a Bachelor’s or Master’s program in Urban Planning, Architecture, Geography, Environmental Studies, or a related field
Experience and Skills:
Strong interest in sustainable urban development and public space planning
Experience with spatial analysis tools such as ArcGIS, QGIS, or similar software
Good research and analytical skills
Ability to work independently and in a multicultural environment
Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
Proficiency in other UN languages (especially French or Spanish) is an asset
