Job Description
The selected interns will support one of three teams within OIAI’s Investigations Section:
Investigations Team (2 positions): Focuses on sexual exploitation, abuse (SEA), and child safeguarding (CSG) reports and investigations involving UNICEF staff or partners.
Fraud Investigations Team (1 position): Handles cases related to fraud and corruption, including third-party partner reviews and data-driven investigative analysis.
Strategy, Intake, and Analysis Unit (1 position): Reviews incoming complaints, conducts initial assessments, manages data analysis, and supports reporting and policy development.
Each intern will work under the supervision of an Investigation Manager and will assist in data analysis, report drafting, evidence collection, case tracking, and research to strengthen investigative integrity and efficiency. The duration of the internship is six months, beginning as soon as possible, with in-person or remote options available depending on assignment.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
For Internship 1 – Investigations Team (2 positions):
Analyze data and information for initial assessments and investigations.
Conduct open-source research and gather case-related evidence.
Draft investigation reports, case assessments, and advisory memoranda.
Support review of investigations conducted by third-party partners (NGOs/CSOs).
Assist in intake and triage of SEA/CSG reports, ensuring timely referrals and accurate record-keeping.
Register and update reports in internal case management systems and UN-wide SEA databases.
Analyze trends and prepare statistical reports.
Participate in investigative interviews and summarize findings.
Prepare progress updates and assist with ad hoc team reporting.
For Internship 2 – Fraud Investigations Team (1 position):
Conduct analysis on cases of fraud and corruption.
Research UNICEF databases and external information sources to support investigations.
Review third-party partner investigations and assist with evidence analysis.
Participate in investigative interviews and record findings.
Maintain team case trackers and generate activity reports.
Prepare documentation, notes, and updates on investigation progress.
For Internship 3 – Strategy, Intake, and Analysis Unit (1 position):
Review incoming reports and assist in conducting initial assessments.
Draft closure notes, referral memoranda, and supporting documentation.
Assist with intake of new cases via OIAI’s hotline, maintaining accuracy in case files.
Participate in evidence collection and witness interviews.
Analyze case data and assist with internal and external reporting.
Conduct legal research, policy review, and contribute to donor and compliance reports.
Qualifications, Experience, and Competencies
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Education:
Currently enrolled in or recently graduated (within the past 2 years) from a university or advanced degree program in Law, Criminology, Political Science, International Relations, Public Administration, or related fields.
Experience:
0–2 years of relevant experience in legal, investigative, or compliance-related functions.
Familiarity with the UN system or international organizations is an asset.
Skills and Competencies:
Strong analytical, research, and report-writing skills.
Fluency in English (required).
Working knowledge of Arabic, French, or Spanish is a strong advantage; additional languages such as Chinese, Russian, Pashto, or Bangla are assets.
Excellent interpersonal communication and teamwork skills.
Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
Proficiency in MS Office and data management tools.
Strong attention to detail, organizational ability, and adaptability to multiple tasks.
