Job Description
The intern will assist with activities focused on preventing and combating crimes affecting the environment such as wildlife trafficking, illegal logging, and waste trafficking. Responsibilities may include conducting research, drafting reports and briefs, supporting program planning and monitoring, assisting in organizing events and workshops, and developing communication materials. The intern will collaborate with UNODC staff, partners, and field teams to strengthen environmental crime prevention initiatives. The role provides hands-on experience in the UN system, environmental policy, and crime prevention frameworks. This is a full-time, in-person internship based in Nairobi.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Conduct research and analysis on crimes affecting the environment
Support preparation of reports, briefing notes, and presentations
Assist in organizing meetings, workshops, and awareness activities
Support project planning, monitoring, and documentation
Assist with communication and outreach materials
Provide administrative and coordination support to program staff
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Academic & Professional Qualifications
Currently enrolled in, or recently graduated from, a bachelor’s or master’s program in Law, Criminology, Environmental Studies, Political Science, International Relations, or related field (UN internship requirement)
Experience (not mandatory but desirable)
Interest in environmental crime, justice, and international development
Experience in research, writing, or programme support is an advantage
Skills & Competencies
Strong research and analytical skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work in a multicultural environment
Proficiency in MS Office and online research tools
Strong organizational and time-management skills
