Job Description
As an Intermediate Site Reliability Engineer (SRE), you’ll be responsible for the uptime and reliability of GitLab’s user-facing services and production systems. The role focuses on designing and managing scalable network infrastructure, incident response, automation, and cross-functional collaboration to maintain and improve the platform’s performance. SREs are expected to be autonomous, proactive, and innovative, with a strong focus on systems, algorithms, and distributed environments.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Design and implement scalable networking infrastructure for GitLab platforms
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive infrastructure projects
Participate in on-call rotation during daytime hours
Lead technical initiatives and projects from planning to execution
Specialize in networking and rate limiting services
Automate operational tasks to improve efficiency
Serve as a subject matter expert within Infrastructure-Platforms
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Must-Have Skills & Experience:
Expertise in Google Cloud Platform networking (VPCs, subnets, load balancers)
GKE (Google Kubernetes Engine) configuration and scaling
Proficiency in Terraform and configuration management tools (Ansible, Chef)
Hands-on experience with Kubernetes and Helm
Programming in Ruby or Go
Understanding of TCP/IP, HTTP/HTTPS, DNS protocols
Familiarity with network observability and traffic analysis tools
Strong scripting abilities (Ruby, Go, Bash)
Experience with GitLab CI or equivalent CI/CD tools

Strong automation mindset
Comfortable working in a globally distributed team
