Job Description
Job Title: Incoming Quality Control Engineer
Organisation: GOGO Electric
Duty Station: Kampala, Uganda
The Incoming Quality Control (IQC) Engineer reports to the Quality Manager and ensures supplier materials meet company standards through systematic inspections and record-keeping.
They resolve quality issues, collaborate with Supply Chain on supplier quality, support Engineering on design changes, and work with Operational Excellence on documentation. This role is crucial for maintaining production quality across the value chain.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Inspection of Incoming Materials
Perform detailed inspections of raw materials and components upon arrival, using established checklists and measurement tools.
Verify compliance with technical specifications, drawings, and approved quality standards.
Isolate and document non-conforming materials, coordinating with the Quality Manager and relevant stakeholders for disposition (e.g., rejection, rework, or acceptance with deviation).
Ensure IQC tools are properly calibrated and maintained, and recommend improvements to inspection methods for greater efficiency and accuracy.
Documentation and Reporting
Maintain accurate and up-to-date inspection records, including checklists, test results, and photographs of non-conformities.
Generate detailed incoming inspection reports for management review.
Defect Analysis and Feedback
Collaborate with the stakeholders to investigate the root cause of recurring material defects.
Provide structured feedback to suppliers through formal channels, ensuring corrective actions are implemented and verified.
Supplier Quality Evaluation
Support the development and implementation of a supplier quality performance system, in close collaboration with the Supply Chain and Procurement teams.
Recommend relevant quality metrics for suppliers and contribute to the creation of scorecards or other evaluation tools.
Track and document quality-specific supplier metrics, such as defect rates, rejection percentages.
Communicate material-related quality issues to suppliers in collaboration with the relevant stakeholders.
Support periodic supplier quality reviews by providing relevant data and insights from inspections.
Continuous Improvement
Propose improvements to the incoming inspection process to reduce inspection times and improve defect detection rates.
Contribute to supplier improvement programs by sharing insights from incoming material trends.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
The Ideal Candidate should have:
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
Experience in incoming quality control or quality assurance in a manufacturing or assembly environment.
Skills and Competencies
Strong understanding of inspection methods and tools, such as callipers, micrometres, and gauges.
Basic knowledge of quality management systems (ISO 9001) and statistical tools for quality analysis.
Experience with root cause analysis (RCA) and corrective action processes.
Competency in technical documentation and reporting.
Familiarity with Lean principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
Personal Attributes
Detail-oriented with a high degree of accuracy.
Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive attitude.
Effective communicator, both written and verbal.
Able to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
