Job Description
Human Resource Intern
Organization: Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) Uganda
Location: Uganda
Role Overview
Under the direct supervision of the Country HR Manager, the Human Resource Intern will gain hands-on experience and insight into HR best practices within the humanitarian and development sectors. The intern will support various HR functions including recruitment, onboarding, contract management, HR information system (HRIMS), compensation and benefits, and staff exit procedures.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Assist in managing staff personnel files and maintaining accurate records.
Support payslip administration processes.
Assist with recruitment activities and onboarding of new staff.
Maintain and update HR tracking tools and databases.
Provide day-to-day HR support to JRS staff.
Perform other tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Education:
A university degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, Public Administration, Social Work, or a related field.
Experience:
Prior experience in a similar role, especially within an INGO or humanitarian context, is an advantage.
Skills & Competencies
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
Understanding of local employment laws and global HR best practices.
Strong interpersonal skills with a pastoral approach, empathy, and active listening.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and work with integrity, impartiality, and fairness.
Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage tasks and meet deadlines.
Proficient in Microsoft Office 365; familiarity with InDesign and database management is a plus.
