Health Information Assistants may compile and analyze health data to generate reports on patient demographics, disease prevalence, treatment outcomes, and other key metrics. These reports can inform healthcare decision-making, quality improvement initiatives, and research efforts, Patient Education:
They may educate patients and their families about accessing and understanding their medical records, including how to interpret test results, medication lists, and treatment plans, Interdepartmental Collaboration: Health Information Assistants work closely with healthcare providers, nurses, administrative staff, and other professionals to ensure the seamless exchange of health information and the coordination of patient care.
Record Management: Health Information Assistants are responsible for organizing, updating, and maintaining patient records, both in physical and electronic formats. This includes entering patient information into electronic health record (EHR) systems, filing paper documents, and ensuring that records are kept up-to-date.
Data Entry: They input patient demographic information, medical histories, diagnoses, treatments, and other relevant data into electronic health records or databases accurately and efficiently.
Medical Coding and Billing: Health Information Assistants may assign appropriate medical codes to diagnoses, procedures, and services performed during patient encounters. This ensures accurate billing and reimbursement from insurance companies and other third-party payers.
Release of Information: They handle requests for medical records from patients, healthcare providers, insurance companies, and legal entities.
