About the Organisation
Lancet laboratories Uganda Ltd is part of the Lancet laboratories East Africa Group and has quality programs that have been approved by the group level in Kenya, South Africa, and Europe.
We participate in external quality assurance (EQA) programs with a body called Thistle and NHLS (National Health Laboratory Services SA) in which we have all our departments covered: Hematology, Chemistry, Immunology, Coagulation, Microbiology and Flow Cytometry.

Job Description
Checks and attends transport related issues such as fuel and mechanical requests that are brought forth by the supervisor, couriers and drivers in relation to operations to ensure smooth running of fleet
Duties and Responsibilities
Checks and attends to the day-to-day transport requests.
Prepares driver schedules based on transport requests.
Oversees efficient running, fuel utilization, maintenance and repairs of all fleet across the country.
Liaise with external parties in regards to servicing of vehicles, repairs and parts as well as maintenance of the vehicle.
Ensures couriers and drivers are able to locate destinations through physical maps and google maps for directions.
Motivate, train, coach and support new and existing staff.
Ensures all stocks and shipments is dropped off with the shipping companies for dispatch to sites as per request from the materials management department.
Submits written reports to the CGM on a daily basis and any other information vital to the organization and relates to business.
Manages the Logis courier sample tracking systems.
Fleet Management
Ensure all motor vehicles and bikes have valid Licenses.
Checks and attends transport related issues such as fuel and mechanical requests that are brought forth by the supervisor, couriers and drivers in relation to operations to ensure smooth running of fleet
Liaise with external parties in regard to servicing of vehicles, repairs and parts as well as maintenance of the vehicle.
Ensure all company fleet are in good working and running condition.
Monitoring transport and fuel costs to ensure there is no misuse.
Route management
Oversee roll out and implementation of Logis-Online on all company fleet.
Checks and attends to the day-to-day transport requests.
Manages couriers and routes
Prepares driver schedules based on transport requests.
Ensures couriers and drivers are able to locate destinations through physical maps and google maps for directions, through Logis- Online courier sample tracking systems.
Supervises and coordinates the collection of samples from various sites
Team Management
Direct supervision of all transport department staff and coordinate with HR department for all transport staff recruitment and assessment of their efficiency and delivery.
Responsible for recruitment and interviewing of couriers and drivers.
Manage the development, performance and maintenance of the organization’s transport to produce an efficient transport service, maximizing performance, value and profitability against pre-agreed targets
Qualifications and Competencies
Education: A bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as transportation management, logistics, supply chain management, business administration, or engineering is often required. Some employers may prefer candidates with a master's degree or professional certifications in transportation management.
Experience: Significant experience in transportation management, logistics, or related fields is typically required for a Head of Transport role. Candidates should have a proven track record of success in managing transportation operations, optimizing routes, reducing costs, and improving efficiency. Previous experience in a leadership or managerial role is also essential.
Industry Knowledge: A thorough understanding of transportation industry trends, regulations, and best practices is essential for a Head of Transport. Candidates should be familiar with various transportation modes (road, rail, air, sea) and have knowledge of relevant technologies, equipment, and systems used in the transportation sector.
Leadership Skills: Strong leadership and management skills are essential for overseeing transportation teams and operations. The Head of Transport should be able to inspire and motivate staff, delegate tasks effectively, and provide direction and guidance to achieve departmental goals and objectives.
