Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
- Establish and lead product management practice, including bringing sceptical colleagues along.
- Own several products across different lifecycle stages and set strategy for each.
- Ship AI features into production, covering evaluation, quality control and human oversight.
- Choose between models and providers on capability, latency, offline behaviour, data residency, cost and exit options.
- Run product discovery with users in low-connectivity, low-literacy or resource-constrained settings.
- Use data to stop or change direction on products where needed.
- Make the case for product management in writing to sceptical audiences.
- Support handover of products to government systems and open-source health platforms.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Qualifications & Experience:
- Proven experience establishing product management where it did not previously exist.
- AI features shipped into production, covering evaluation, quality control and human oversight rather than proof of concept work.
- Ownership of several products at different lifecycle stages with evidence of data-driven decisions to stop or change direction.
- Strong discovery practice with users in low-connectivity, low-literacy or resource-constrained settings.
- Excellent written communication; making the case for product management in writing is core to the role.
- Experience in digital health, community health systems or international development is desirable.
- Experience building for or handing over to government systems is desirable.
- Experience with open-source health platforms such as CHT, OpenSRP or CommCare is desirable.
Skills & Competencies:
- Strategic product judgement and prioritisation.
- Ability to influence senior stakeholders in writing.
- Sound understanding of AI evaluation and quality control.
- User research skills in constrained settings.
