Job Description
The Head of Medical Insurance Business will develop and implement strategies aligned with overall company objectives, manage the financial performance of the medical insurance portfolio, drive product innovation including digital health solutions, and cultivate productive partnerships with healthcare providers. The role oversees operational management of claims and service delivery, leads a team of insurance professionals, ensures compliance with regulations, and manages risk within the business unit. The position requires strong leadership to foster a collaborative work environment and promote talent development.

How to Apply
Develop and execute strategic plans for the medical insurance business.
Manage financial performance through portfolio oversight, pricing, and cost control.
Conduct market research to identify growth opportunities and competitive advantages.
Innovate and launch new insurance products and value-added services.
Monitor KPIs related to premiums, claims, retention, and profitability.
Lead sales and marketing efforts, client relationship management, and strategic partnerships.
Oversee daily medical insurance operations and claims processing.
Negotiate favorable agreements with healthcare providers.
Lead, mentor, and develop medical insurance teams including underwriters, claims officers, and business development staff.
Collaborate with Human Capital to manage recruitment, training, succession planning, and grievance resolution.
Identify and mitigate operational, financial, and reputational risks.
Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal risk management frameworks.
Review audit findings and oversee timely resolution of issues.
Education & Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Insurance, Actuarial Science, Business or related field (Essential).
Master’s Degree (advantageous).
Relevant professional qualification such as ACII, CPA, or Actuarial certification.
Membership in a recognized professional body in good standing.
Experience:
Minimum 12 years in the insurance industry, with at least 7 years in senior leadership roles within medical insurance.
Deep knowledge of the Kenyan healthcare market, including regulations and key players.
Proven success in business development, sales leadership, and strategic execution.
Strong technical knowledge of insurance underwriting and medical insurance products.
Demonstrated leadership and team development capabilities.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
Strong IT and digital awareness within the insurance/financial sector.
High ethical standards and a strong work ethic.
