Job Description

The incumbent will oversee the formulation, implementation, and monitoring of policies and strategies to promote African integration and trade in line with the AU’s Agenda 2063 and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). The role includes coordinating technical committees, supervising economic studies, engaging with Member States, RECs, and key international stakeholders, and mobilizing funding to support integration programs. The Head will also lead the preparation of flagship publications, policy briefs, and technical reports, while providing expert advice and intellectual guidance on economic transformation and development.

How to Apply

  • Supervise division staff, ensuring effective performance management.

  • Lead policy design and program planning in integration and trade.

  • Coordinate implementation of the African integration agenda and AfCFTA.

  • Engage stakeholders including Member States, RECs, UNECA, WTO, UNCTAD, AfDB, and donors.

  • Manage preparation of technical reports, research papers, and AU flagship publications.

  • Provide policy advice on sustainable economic transformation and global value chain integration.

  • Mobilize funding and monitor budget execution at the division level.

  • Represent AU at conferences, summits, and high-level meetings.

  • Oversee progress of divisional activities and ensure risk management strategies are applied.

  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Director.

  • Master’s degree in Economics, Finance, International Business, Public Administration, Monetary Economics, or related field.

  • Minimum 12 years of relevant work experience, including 7 years at managerial level and 5 years at supervisory level.

  • Strong leadership, supervisory, and mentoring skills.

  • Proven ability to build partnerships across diverse cultures and geographies.

  • Excellent strategic risk management and change management skills.

  • Strong communication, relationship-building, and innovation skills.

  • Proficiency in one AU working language (Arabic, English, French, Portuguese); fluency in another is an added advantage.
