Job Description

The Government Relations Lead will report directly to the Country Director and manage a team focused on policy advocacy, regulatory compliance, and stakeholder engagement. This role requires establishing strong partnerships with government officials, NGOs, and private-sector actors. The individual will also lead efforts to track regulatory changes, organize high-level visits, and align government relations strategies with organizational goals to expand One Acre Fund’s impact in Tanzania.

Duties, Roles and Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the Government Relations (GR) Team in Tanzania

  • Build and maintain strategic relationships with government institutions, parliamentarians, NGOs, and private-sector partners

  • Monitor political and regulatory developments and mitigate potential risks

  • Advocate for policies that improve farmer productivity, climate resilience, and market access

  • Ensure compliance with national regulations and support internal compliance training

  • Coordinate high-level visits, prepare briefings, and represent the organization at key policy forums

  • Collaborate with other department heads to integrate government relations into broader operations

  • Represent One Acre Fund’s policy interests with relevant authorities

Qualifications, Education and Competencies

  • Minimum 4 years of experience in government or external relations, policy advocacy, or similar fields within Tanzania

  • Deep understanding of Tanzanian government structures, regulatory frameworks, and political landscape

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Law, International Relations, or related field

  • Strong relationship-building and partner management skills

  • Solid risk management and policy analysis capabilities

  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral), with the ability to engage a variety of stakeholders

  • Fluency in English and Kiswahili

  • Must be a Tanzanian citizen or permanent resident
