Job Description
The General Accountant will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, managing staff and intercompany accounts, processing payroll-related transactions, and preparing statutory deductions. The role demands experience in using accounting software (preferably SAP), attention to detail, and a strong understanding of general ledger and reconciliation processes. The position also involves supporting month-end closing procedures and relieving senior accountants when necessary.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Posting of General Accounting Journals
Prepare and post approved accounting journals
Ensure appropriate approvals and matching of general ledgers
Staff Account Management
Post staff account vouchers
Review and follow up on outstanding staff balances
Prepare payroll deduction lists
Monitor and communicate airtime and fuel consumption
Intercompany Accounts Management
Analyze and reconcile intercompany ledger balances
Prepare inter-billing reports and resolve disputes
Bank Reconciliations
Conduct monthly bank reconciliations
Identify and resolve reconciling items in collaboration with Treasury
General Duties
Submit payroll-related statutory deductions (NSSF, NHIF, NITA, etc.)
Prepare withholding tax submissions
Support customer account matching
Participate in month-end closing activities
Provide coverage for senior accountants as needed
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
A Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance, or Accounting
CPA (K), ACCA, CFA, or equivalent professional certification
Proven working knowledge of SAP
Strong analytical and reconciliation skills
High level of integrity and ability to manage confidential information
Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skill
