HIRING PREFERENCE SELECTION PROCESS: Applicants in the following hiring preference categories are extended a hiring preference in the order listed below. IMPORTANT: Applicants who claim status as a preference-eligible U.S. Veteran must submit a copy of their most recent DD-214 (“Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty”), equivalent documentation, or certification. A “certification” is any written document from the armed forces that certifies the service member is expected to be discharged or released from active-duty service in the armed forces under honorable conditions within 120 days after the certification is submitted by the applicant. The certification letter should be on letterhead of the appropriate military branch of the service and contain (1) the military service dates including the expected discharge or release date; and (2) the character of service. Acceptable documentation must be submitted in order for the preference to be given.
This level of preference applies to all Foreign Service employees on LWOP and CS with re-employment rights back to their agency or bureau.

Planting and Cultivating Plants:
Planting flowers, shrubs, trees, and other plants.
Selecting appropriate plants based on the climate, soil type, and garden design.
Transplanting seedlings and established plants.
Soil Preparation and Fertilization:
Preparing soil for planting by tilling, mulching, and adding compost or fertilizers.
Testing soil and amending it as needed to ensure optimal growing conditions.
Watering and Irrigation:
Setting up and maintaining irrigation systems.
Watering plants manually or using automated systems to ensure they receive adequate moisture.
Pruning and Trimming:
Pruning trees, shrubs, and plants to encourage healthy growth and maintain their shape.
Trimming hedges and bushes to keep them neat and attractive.
Weed and Pest Control:
Identifying and removing weeds manually or using herbicides.
Managing pests and diseases using organic or chemical treatments.
Implementing integrated pest management strategies.
Lawn Care:
Mowing, edging, and aerating lawns to keep them healthy and tidy.
Seeding, fertilizing, and applying treatments to promote lawn growth and prevent weeds.
Seasonal Maintenance:
Preparing gardens for different seasons, including planting annuals, perennials, and bulbs.
Performing tasks such as mulching in the fall and winterizing plants and irrigation systems.
Garden Design and Landscaping:
Assisting with the design and layout of gardens and green spaces.
Installing garden features such as paths, borders, water features, and garden ornaments.
Equipment Maintenance:
Maintaining gardening tools and equipment, such as mowers, trimmers, and hand tools.
Ensuring equipment is clean, sharp, and in good working condition.

EDUCATION: Completion of elementary (primary) school is required.
Requirements:
EXPERIENCE: Two years gardening experience is required.
JOB KNOWLEDGE: Working knowledge of how to plant (silviculture) and care for plants and flowers (floriculture) are required.
Evaluations: (This may be tested)
LANGUAGE: Level I English (Limited) ability is required.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to perform basic tasks, manual duties, and proper handling and use of basic hand tools/ equipment and planting materials. Must hold valid Ugandan driver’s license.
Qualifications: All applicants under consideration will be required to pass medical and security certifications.
