Job Description

Under the direct supervision of the Field Coordinator, the FSL Officer will:

  • Guide the implementation of climate-smart agriculture and sustainable environment management interventions.

  • Develop and implement farmer group capacity development initiatives.

  • Prepare work plans, activity budgets, guidelines, and internal reports.

  • Promote farmer skills development, production, processing, and marketing through collaboration with civil society organizations, development actors, private sector partners, and communities.

  • Ensure quality and effective implementation of project models by conducting training, using standard tools, and implementing best practices.

  • Maintain close collaboration with district technical personnel and other stakeholders to facilitate the successful execution of project activities.

Duties, Roles and Responsibilities

  1. Effective Implementation and Sustainability of Interventions:

    • Develop and update project activity plans in collaboration with key departments.

    • Ensure transparent selection of participants and provide technical assistance on climate-smart agriculture.

    • Promote modern farming practices and support demonstration plots for farmer group learning.

    • Conduct business training and support income-generating activities, market analysis, and value chain analysis.

    • Organize monthly field planning meetings to guide implementation.

  2. Stakeholder Engagement and Collaboration:

    • Work with partners to ensure coordination of climate-smart agriculture activities.

    • Participate in stakeholder meetings, workshops, and sector working groups.

    • Build the capacity of farmer groups and collaborate with district and development actors.

    • Foster positive cooperation with stakeholders and maintain good relationships with key external partners.

  3. Linkage, Networking, Collaboration, and Mentorship:

    • Promote sustainable environmental management in collaboration with relevant agencies.

    • Mentor and support enterprises to adopt high-value, export-standard, and eco-friendly practices.

    • Identify business opportunities, provide production support, and establish linkages with agricultural stakeholders.

  4. Documentation, Reporting, and Knowledge Management:

    • Compile and submit accurate activity and progress reports.

    • Support quarterly project reviews and assist in designing monitoring tools with the MEAL team.

    • Document project achievements, success stories, and lessons learned.

    • Supervise FSL Extension Workers and develop technical coaching plans.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies

  • Bachelor’s degree (honors) in Agricultural Sciences, Business Economics, or a related field.

  • At least 5 years of experience implementing food security and livelihoods activities, preferably in an INGO setting.

  • Experience working in multi-sectoral settings within refugee contexts.

  • Practical knowledge of value chain development and public-private partnerships.

  • Proven experience working with farmer organizations and building capacity.

  • Strong presentation skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (PowerPoint, Excel, Word).

  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral) in English.

  • Valid motorcycle riding permit and willingness to ride a motorcycle.

  • Knowledge of the local language is an added advantage.

  • Strong problem-solving, judgment, and decision-making abilities.

  • Team player with flexibility to work in stressful environments.
