Duties, Roles and Responsibilities

Qualifications, Education and Competencies

Applications are invited from suitable qualified persons to fill the underlisted vacant post that exist in the service of Mayuge District Local Government. Applications should be submitted in Triplicate on PSC 3(Revised 2008) to the Secretary District Service Commission PO Box 1317 MAYUGE not later than four weeks from the date of this advertisement.
Application forms can be obtained from Public Service Commission Office 2nd floor Farmers' parliamentary Avenue Kampala and/ or any of the District Service Commission Offices and MUST be filled in the applicants own handwriting with three (3) passport size photographs attached. Serving officers should route their applications through their supervisors who should be informed of the closing date to avoid any unnecessary delay.

  • To conduct regular inspections and surveillance of the fishing activities and fish landing sites in the district.

  • To enforce the fisheries laws and regulations and take appropriate actions against offenders.

  • To promote best practices and standards in fish handling, processing and marketing.

  • To provide technical guidance and support to the fish farmers and fisherfolk associations in the district.

  • To collect and analyze data on the fisheries resources and production in the district.

  • To prepare and submit periodic reports on the fisheries performance and challenges in the district.

  • To participate in the planning, budgeting and review of the fisheries programs and projects in the district.

The Fisheries Officer should have the following qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Fisheries Science, Aquaculture, Zoology or related field from a recognized institution.

  • At least three years of relevant working experience in fisheries management or development.

  • Knowledge of the fisheries policies, laws and regulations in Uganda.

  • Skills in data collection, analysis and report writing.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Computer literacy and proficiency in MS Office applications.
