Job Description
The Financial Accountant will maintain accurate and timely financial records of the MCF KATAZA Project. Responsibilities include reconciliation of accounts, managing project payroll, preparing withdrawal applications, overseeing budgeting processes, supporting audits, maintaining financial controls, and preparing regular financial reports. The role demands high integrity, strong technical skills, and the ability to operate effectively in a project-based and donor-funded environment. The contract is a 5-year renewable fixed-term aligned to the lifespan of the KATAZA Project.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Reconcile general ledger accounts and prepare necessary adjustments
Prepare fund withdrawal applications and maintain GL in line with BRD policy
Ensure monthly bank account reconciliation and maintain an updated chart of accounts
Generate periodic financial reports for KATAZA management and stakeholders
File and process payments, manage creditor/debtor reconciliations
Prepare detailed analysis schedules for income, expenses, assets, and liabilities
Collaborate with PFIs to enhance data collection and reporting
Process payroll and manage payment documentation
Ensure timely and accurate invoice payments
Maintain cash management systems and conduct daily cash counts
Update asset register and manage consultancy/contractor records
Record project expenses and close monthly accounts
Verify financial documents, coding, and budgeting accuracy
Assist with financial planning and cost analysis
Support audit processes and follow up on recommendations
Assist in budget preparation and performance reporting
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related field
Experience:
Minimum 5 years of accounting experience
At least 2 years of experience in a project management environment
Recognized professional accounting qualification (IFAC, ICPAR, ACCA, CPA)
Skills and Competencies:
Strong knowledge of IFRS and Rwanda tax laws
Excellent proficiency in MS Excel and Word; knowledge of accounting software is a plus
High level of integrity, communication, and teamwork
Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
Excellent organizational and analytical skills
Fluency in English and Kinyarwanda (French is an advantage)
