About the Role
Teach For Uganda is seeking a detail-oriented and dependable Finance Officer to support the Finance Manager in overseeing the organization’s financial operations. This includes maintaining accurate records, ensuring compliance with both internal and donor policies, and contributing to strong financial governance. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, analytical, and experienced in financial systems, particularly QuickBooks Online.

How to Apply
1. Accounting & Compliance (40%)
Maintain up-to-date and accurate financial records in QuickBooks Online, following GAAP and TFU’s financial policies.
Prepare and process payment vouchers, ensuring full approval and supporting documentation.
Coordinate with Procurement to collect relevant documents (invoices, receipts) to support timely payments.
Maintain a well-organized and secure filing system for all finance-related documentation.
Regularly track and report on accounts payable and receivable, providing weekly updates to the Finance Manager.
Manage the Withholding Tax (WHT) schedule and ensure timely filing and reconciliations.
2. Financial Reporting & Analysis (30%)
Assist in the preparation of monthly financial reports, including donor and internal management reports.
Conduct monthly bank reconciliations and maintain account schedules, ensuring completion by the first working day of each month.
Review financial requisitions and expense reports for proper coding and alignment with budget lines and donor guidelines.
Provide support during audits by ensuring complete and accurate financial documentation is available.
Process approved payments in line with organizational procedures and budgets.
Verify financial documentation to ensure compliance with donor and TFU requirements.
3. Internal Controls & Compliance (20%)
Execute month-end closing activities including ledger reconciliation, FlexiPay and debit card transactions.
Enforce financial controls, ensuring proper documentation and audit trail.
Assist in implementing audit recommendations and strengthening internal controls.
Support compliance monitoring in line with both TFU’s internal policies and donor requirements.
Offer basic financial orientation to new staff when required.
4. Budget & Cash Flow Support (10%)
Assist in the development and monitoring of organizational and project-specific budgets.
Track expenditures against approved budgets and report any deviations.
Support the preparation of monthly cash flow forecasts to ensure smooth operations.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or Business Administration.
At least Level II certification in a professional accountancy body such as ACCA, CPA, or CIMA is an added advantage.
Minimum of three (3) years of relevant work experience, ideally with an INGO or donor-funded organization.
Hands-on experience with QuickBooks Online is required — this is non-negotiable.
Desired Skills & Competencies
Strong working knowledge of financial management practices in a non-profit environment.
Proficiency in QuickBooks and Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel).
Familiarity with audit standards and financial reporting frameworks.
Exceptional attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
Ability to manage multiple priorities with minimal supervision.
Strong ethical standards, integrity, and accountability.
