JSI/WE is seeking a Finance Assistant for a five-year USAID funded Targeting the Learning Crisis (TLC) Activity in Uganda, which aims to create sustained, measurable improvements in development outcomes in Basic Education through Targeted Instruction for foundational skills, a learner-centric pedagogy that reorganizes math and reading instruction based on children’s actual learning levels, rather than on the prescribed grade-level syllabus. The Activity seeks to implement cost-effective, sustainable, and impactful programming, centered around Targeted Instruction pedagogy for P3-P5, Targeted Instruction and other evidence-based approaches for P1-P2, and evidence-based early childhood education for pre-primary years, in order to significantly improve math and reading learning outcomes for Ugandan primary students.
The Finance Assistant is a full-time position based in Kampala. Under the direct supervision of the Finance Officer (FO), the Finance Assistant (FA) plays an integral role in carrying out the TLC Project accounting functions in order to ensure the timely, accurate reporting of TLC Project financial and accounting information.

How to Apply
The Finance Assistant will be responsible for the day-to-day support of the project’s financial records, payments, and receipts. This support includes the following;
Initiate mobile money Payments of staff Advances and Expense reimbursements on a timely manner.
Follow up financial transactions with outside agencies and vendors as necessary.
Ensure safe custody of an adequate petty cash float, to be issued in accordance with TLC Project policies and procedures.
Photocopy all vouchers and back-up documentation as soon as the transactions have been fully approved.
Ensure that that all original documents are photocopied before they are dispatched to Boston.
Arrange vouchers for dispatch to Home Office along with other Quick Books reports.
Provide support in reviewing staff Advance Requests and Accountabilities and forward them for second review to FO
Interface and work with cross functional teams within the organization;
Ensure that in your line of duty, you are aware of child safeguarding principles and guidelines and apply it in your day-to-day roles as you interact with communities and children.
Ensure promotion of safe child practices and mitigation, prevention and reporting of violations of children to ensure compliance; and
Carry out other tasks as assigned by your supervisor or designee.
University degree in a relevant field, such as accounting, finance or business management;
At least 2 years of relevant experience in financial management and/or accounting in an NGO setting;
Experience with QuickBooks accounting system is an added advantage;
Working with Mobile Money payments systems is strongly desired;
Relevant experience with USAID-funded programs is an added advantage;
Ability to work independently, take initiative and manage various activities in a team setting with minimal supervision;
A proven ability to work as part of a team and to be self-managing;
Must be able to maintain confidentiality for all project and staff proprietary matters.
Good skills in Microsoft Word, Excel;
Good communications and interpersonal skills.
