Job Description
Job Title: Finance Assistant

Location: Lira, Lango Region, Uganda
Employment Type: Full-Time (40 hours/week)
Duration: 6 months (renewal subject to funding availability)
Grade: Uganda – F

Salary: Commensurate with experience and qualifications
Position Overview
URC is seeking a Finance Assistant to support the Uganda Health Activity (UHA), a five-year USAID-funded project aimed at strengthening health service delivery across Uganda. Based in Lira, the Finance Assistant will support financial reporting, ensure compliance with URC and U.S. government regulations, and assist in the maintenance of internal controls.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Assist in the preparation and timely submission of monthly financial reports to the home office
Post financial transactions into Cost Point (CP) and perform reconciliations (bank, mobile money, staff advances)
Verify payment documentation for completeness and accuracy
Process per diems and travel advances for project activities
Support compliance with URC and USDOS financial regulations
Respond to monthly financial review comments from the home office, providing necessary documentation and corrections
Help prepare monthly cash forecasts and update the vendor tracker in line with Contracts department guidelines
Ensure timely and proper filing of all financial documents and payment vouchers
Coordinate with the program team to obtain required documentation for payments to government officials and partners
Work with the operations team to reconcile and process telecom, internet, and vendor payments
Assist in preparing tax documentation (e.g., VAT reports)
Participate in periodic inventory checks and asset verifications
Support routine audit checks across operational functions (e.g., stores, transport, security, and asset management)
Maintain a tracking log for incoming and outgoing documents at the regional office
Perform general administrative and operational support duties
Carry out any other finance-related duties as assigned
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
Minimum of 1 year of experience in accounting or financial management
Strong written and verbal communication skills
High proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel, Word, and Outlook)
Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities effectively
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with Cost Point financial software
Previous experience working with URC and/or USAID-funded projects
Additional Information
This position is open to candidates legally authorized to work in Uganda
No relocation or additional allowances are provided for this role
