Job Description
As part of the Kigali Urban Fabric Initiative—a collaborative urban upgrading project funded by the Agence Française de Développement (AFD)—the Environmental and Social Impact Specialist will assess environmental and social risks and propose mitigation measures for community infrastructure being developed in Kagugu, Rwezamenyo, and Nyakabanda. The role includes conducting ESIA studies, facilitating community consultations, aligning project implementation with international and national environmental and social standards, and producing reports that support environmentally sustainable and socially inclusive development. The position will be project-based and part-time over the three-year project period, with engagement at relevant project stages.

How to Apply
Conduct Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIA) for small-scale infrastructure projects.
Engage local communities and stakeholders in participatory consultations during the ESIA process.
Identify potential environmental and social risks and propose feasible mitigation strategies.
Ensure ESIA activities comply with Rwandan environmental laws and AFD guidelines.
Develop and submit ESIA reports, including Environmental and Social Management Plans (ESMPs).
Provide technical guidance to the design and construction teams regarding safeguards compliance.
Monitor implementation of mitigation measures throughout project execution.
Collaborate with RWN, Bantu Studio, and Espelia partners to integrate ESIA findings into overall project planning and design.

Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Social Sciences, or related field. A Master’s degree is an added advantage.
Minimum of 3 years of experience conducting ESIA in Rwanda or similar contexts.
Familiarity with Rwandan environmental legislation and AFD (or similar donor) environmental and social safeguard policies.
Strong analytical and reporting skills.
Proven experience in stakeholder engagement and participatory methodologies.
Fluency in English and Kinyarwanda is required; French is an advantage.
High integrity, attention to detail, and ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural environment
