Job Description
This is an exciting opportunity to lead EHS efforts across Schneider Electric’s Services, Projects, and Facilities operations in East Africa. The EHS Specialist will provide strategic direction on health, safety, and environmental matters, develop and implement management systems aligned with OHSAS 18001 and ISO 14001, and ensure full compliance with all applicable regulations. The role also involves conducting audits, managing risk registers, driving continuous improvement, and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
This individual contributor position reports directly to the Vice President of Services for English Speaking Africa and works closely with stakeholders across multiple departments. The role demands strong regulatory knowledge, communication skills, and a track record of successfully implementing EHS strategies.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Lead EHS initiatives across services, projects, and facilities departments.
Develop and maintain health, safety & environmental systems in line with OHSAS 18001 and ISO 14001.
Support onsite teams in implementing safe work practices.
Manage a comprehensive EHS management program with clear objectives and timelines.
Maintain and prioritize risk registers across all operational areas.
Act as a liaison with international divisions on EHS performance and system feedback.
Conduct EHS audits and drive compliance with regulations.
Engage with regulatory bodies and respond to incidents and official notices.
Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and awareness.
Provide regular reports to leadership on EHS performance and improvements.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science in Chemical, Environmental, Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical/Electronic Engineering.
Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in Environment, Health & Safety.
Professional certifications (e.g., NEBOSH, IEMA) are required.

Strong understanding of East African EHS regulations.
Proven ability to manage EHS programs and ensure compliance.
Excellent project and program management skills.
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage diverse teams.
Effective communicator with presentation and negotiation expertise.
Skilled at managing multiple projects simultaneously.
High attention to detail and ability to prioritize under pressure.
Strong teamwork, inclusiveness, and leadership capabilities.
