Enrolled Nurses (ENs), also known as Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) in some regions, play a crucial role in the healthcare system. Their duties and requirements vary depending on the country and the specific healthcare setting they work in, but generally, they are responsible for providing basic nursing care under the supervision of Registered Nurses (RNs) and other healthcare professionals.

Basic Patient Care:

  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by physicians.

  • Monitor vital signs (e.g., blood pressure, pulse, temperature).

  • Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, eating, and toileting.

  • Change dressings and wound care.

  • Provide mobility assistance and help with exercises.


Clinical Tasks:

  • Collect samples for testing (e.g., blood, urine).

  • Perform basic diagnostic tests (e.g., urinalysis, blood glucose monitoring).

  • Assist in the preparation and administration of intravenous (IV) therapy.

  • Prepare and maintain sterile environments and equipment.


Patient Support:

  • Provide emotional support to patients and their families.

  • Educate patients about health maintenance and disease prevention.

  • Assist in developing and implementing patient care plans.


Documentation:

  • Maintain accurate and detailed patient records.
