Clinical Supervision and Leadership:
Supervise nursing staff, including Registered Nurses (RNs), Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), and nursing aides.
Ensure that nursing care is provided in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Lead by example, demonstrating clinical expertise and professional behavior.
Patient Care Management:
Oversee the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care.
Ensure that patients receive safe, effective, and compassionate care.
Address complex patient care issues and provide guidance to nursing staff.
Staff Management and Development:
Participate in the recruitment, hiring, and orientation of new nursing staff.
Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing feedback.
Identify training needs and coordinate professional development opportunities.
Quality Assurance and Improvement:
Monitor and evaluate nursing practices to ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and standards.
Implement quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes.
Investigate and resolve patient care complaints or issues.
Administrative Responsibilities:
Develop and manage nursing budgets, including staffing, supplies, and equipment.
Maintain accurate records and documentation related to patient care and staff activities.
Coordinate with other healthcare professionals and departments to ensure seamless patient care.
Policy and Procedure Development:
Contribute to the development and revision of nursing policies and procedures.
Ensure that nursing staff are aware of and adhere to current policies and procedures.
A Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) is typically required; a Master's degree in Nursing (MSN) or a related field may be preferred or required for higher-level positions.
Licensure and Certification:
Must be a licensed Registered Nurse (RN) in the state or country of employment.
Additional certifications in specialized areas of nursing or leadership (e.g., Certified Nurse Manager and Leader (CNML), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)) may be beneficial or required.
Experience:
Several years of clinical nursing experience, often in a specific specialty area.
Previous experience in a supervisory or leadership role is usually required.
Skills:
Strong clinical skills and knowledge of nursing practices and standards.
Excellent leadership and management abilities.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Ability to handle stress and make decisions in high-pressure situations.
