Applications are invited from suitably qualified Ugandans to fill the following vacancy in Yumbe District Local Government. Applications on PSC Form 3 (revised 2008) in triplicate, together with 3 recent coloured passport size photos copies of academic documents (transcripts and Certificates), National Identity Cards, Registration Certificate and other relevant documents should reach the Secretary, District Service Commission Yumbe, P.O. Box 1, Yumbe not later than 5th April 2024 (5:00 pm).
Hand written applications accompanied with curriculum vitae and all the above requirements can also be accepted. PSC Form 3 can be obtained from the Secretary DSC Yumbe, or any nearby District, or Public Service Commission, Kampala.
Antenatal Care: Provide prenatal care to expectant mothers, including conducting routine check-ups, monitoring maternal and fetal health, and educating mothers about pregnancy, childbirth, and postnatal care.
Intrapartum Care: Assist with childbirth and provide support to women during labor and delivery. This may involve monitoring maternal and fetal vital signs, providing pain relief measures, and assisting with the delivery process.
Postnatal Care: Provide postnatal care to new mothers and their newborns, including conducting postpartum assessments, assisting with breastfeeding, and providing education and support on newborn care and parenting.
Education and Counseling: Educate expectant mothers and their families about pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding, newborn care, and contraception options. Provide counseling and support to address any concerns or questions they may have.
Documentation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records, including prenatal assessments, labor progress notes, and postnatal assessments. Ensure that all documentation complies with legal and regulatory requirements.
Emergency Response: Respond to obstetric emergencies and provide immediate care and interventions as needed. This may include managing complications during childbirth, administering emergency medications, and initiating resuscitation measures for newborns.
Collaboration: Collaborate with other members of the healthcare team, including obstetricians, nurses, pediatricians, and support staff, to ensure comprehensive and coordinated care for expectant mothers and their newborns.
Community Outreach: Participate in community outreach programs and educational initiatives to promote maternal and infant health, prevent pregnancy-related complications, and raise awareness about midwifery care.
Professional Development: Engage in ongoing professional development activities, such as attending workshops, conferences, and continuing education courses, to stay current with best practices and advancements in midwifery care.

Clinical Experience: Clinical experience is a crucial component of enrolled midwifery training. Students gain hands-on experience working under the supervision of registered midwives and other healthcare professionals in various healthcare settings, including hospitals, birthing centers, and clinics.
Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification: Many employers require enrolled midwives to hold current certification in basic life support (BLS) or cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). This ensures that they are prepared to respond to emergencies and provide life-saving interventions when necessary.
Physical Fitness: Enrolled midwives should be in good physical health and capable of performing the physical tasks required in midwifery care, including assisting with childbirth, lifting, and providing hands-on patient care.
Communication Skills: Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, are essential for effective communication with expectant mothers, their families, and other members of the healthcare team.
Empathy and Compassion: Enrolled midwives should possess empathy and compassion for expectant mothers, demonstrating sensitivity to their needs and concerns throughout the childbirth process.
Attention to Detail: Attention to detail is crucial in midwifery care to ensure accurate documentation, monitoring of maternal and fetal health, and adherence to established protocols and procedures.
Teamwork: Enrolled midwives work closely with registered midwives, obstetricians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals as part of a multidisciplinary team. The ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with team members is essential.
