Job Description
Job Title: Engineering Stores Keeper
Department: Engineering
Location: Uganda
Reports To: Maintenance Engineer – Planning and Utilities
Position Purpose
The Engineering Stores Keeper is responsible for the efficient management and control of engineering stores, ensuring that tools, equipment, and materials are accurately recorded, safely stored, and readily accessible to engineering and maintenance teams. This role is critical in minimizing equipment downtime and supporting smooth maintenance operations.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Inventory Management
Receive, inspect, and document deliveries of engineering tools, equipment, and spare parts.
Maintain accurate stock records using manual or electronic inventory systems (e.g., ERP).
Monitor stock levels regularly, generating timely reorder requests to avoid shortages or excess stock.
Identify obsolete, damaged, or slow-moving items and recommend disposal or reallocation actions.
Stores Organization & Housekeeping
Organize materials systematically for easy retrieval while complying with safety protocols.
Tag and label all inventory items clearly with part numbers and descriptions.
Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly store environment at all times.
Optimize store layout to maximize space utilization and improve workflow.
Material Issuance & Accountability
Issue tools and materials to engineering and maintenance teams based on approved requisitions.
Accurately document all material issues and returns.
Track tool and equipment movements to ensure timely returns and minimize losses.
Implement access controls to prevent unauthorized store usage.
Coordinate with procurement and suppliers to ensure timely deliveries.
Support internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation and stock reports.
Participate in periodic physical inventory counts and reconciliations.
Health, Safety & Compliance
Adhere strictly to company safety policies during handling, storage, and issuance of materials.
Use appropriate PPE when working in the store.
Store materials according to health and safety standards to prevent accidents or contamination.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Bachelor’s degree or National Diploma in Engineering, Storekeeping, Logistics, or a related discipline.
Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a similar role, ideally within an engineering or manufacturing environment.
Familiarity with engineering tools, parts, and inventory control principles.
Working Conditions
May require lifting, standing, or walking for extended periods.
Work performed primarily in a warehouse or storeroom setting.
PPE use may be mandatory depending on the work environment.
Competencies
Technical Skills
Strong knowledge of engineering materials, tools, and equipment.
Ability to lift and handle heavy items safely.
Excellent record-keeping and documentation skills.
Strong organizational skills with keen attention to detail.
Basic computer proficiency (Excel, Word).
