Job Description
The Driver will work under the Operations Department to operate Mercy Corps vehicles, maintain logs, ensure vehicle readiness and cleanliness, and provide logistical support. They will also report any vehicle maintenance needs, uphold safety protocols, and support Mercy Corps' mission in a professional and respectful manner. The position demands significant travel within Marsabit County, particularly in challenging and sometimes insecure locations.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Operate Mercy Corps vehicles safely as assigned.
Maintain vehicle log-sheets in compliance with Mercy Corps policies.
Routinely inspect vehicle conditions and report any issues.
Adhere to Mercy Corps and country-specific safety and communication protocols.
Safeguard all vehicle equipment, tools, and supplies.
Ensure vehicles are clean, fueled, and ready for use.
Assist with logistical office tasks when needed.
Support and assist staff and visitors as required.
Submit monthly vehicle fuel and maintenance reports.
Undertake field assignments as directed.
Represent Mercy Corps professionally to maintain its humanitarian image.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Valid driver’s license and Certificate of Good Conduct.
O’ Level certificate (added advantage).
Computer literacy.
Minimum 3 years’ experience as a driver, preferably with an NGO.
Experience operating 4x4 vehicles in rural or insecure environments.
Familiarity with Marsabit County, especially North Horr region.
Knowledge of local routes and safe driving practices in insecure areas.
Proficiency in English and Swahili; knowledge of local languages an asset.
Excellent interpersonal skills, sound judgment, and commitment to safety standards.
