Deputy Head teacher job at Yumbe District Service Commission

Job Description

Applications are invited from suitably qualified Ugandans to fill the following vacancy in Yumbe District Local Government. Applications on PSC Form 3 (revised 2008) in triplicate, together with 3 recent coloured passport size photos copies of academic documents (transcripts and Certificates), National Identity Cards, Registration Certificate and other relevant documents should reach the Secretary, District Service Commission Yumbe, P.O. Box 1, Yumbe not later than 5th April 2024 (5:00 pm).

Hand written applications accompanied with curriculum vitae and all the above requirements can also be accepted. PSC Form 3 can be obtained from the Secretary DSC Yumbe, or any nearby District, or Public Service Commission, Kampala.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Administrative Leadership: Provide overall leadership and management of the school, including overseeing administrative functions such as budgeting, scheduling, and staffing.

  • Curriculum Development: Work with teaching staff to develop and implement curriculum plans that meet the educational needs of students and align with educational standards and objectives.

  • Staff Supervision: Supervise and evaluate teaching staff, support staff, and other school personnel, providing guidance, feedback, and professional development opportunities as needed.

  • Student Discipline: Implement and enforce school policies and disciplinary procedures, ensuring a safe and orderly learning environment for all students.

  • Parent and Community Engagement: Build positive relationships with parents, guardians, and members of the community, fostering open communication and collaboration to support student learning and success.

  • Student Support: Provide support and guidance to students, addressing their academic, social, emotional, and behavioral needs, and ensuring that appropriate interventions and support services are available.

  • School Operations: Oversee the day-to-day operations of the school, including managing facilities, resources, and technology infrastructure to support teaching and learning.

  • School Improvement: Lead efforts to assess school performance, identify areas for improvement, and develop and implement plans for school improvement and professional development.

  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and policies governing education, health, safety, and student welfare.

  • Representation: Represent the school in meetings, events, and collaborations with educational authorities, community organizations, and other stakeholders.

Qualifications and Competencies

  • Education: A bachelor's degree in education or a related field is typically required. Some institutions may prefer candidates with a master's degree or additional certifications in educational leadership or administration.

  • Teaching Experience: Significant teaching experience, preferably at the primary school level, is usually required. Head teachers are expected to have a strong understanding of teaching methodologies, curriculum development, and classroom management.

  • Leadership Training: Completion of leadership training programs or courses in educational management and administration is beneficial. This helps prepare head teachers for their leadership role within the school.

  • Licensure/Certification: Head teachers may need to be licensed or certified by the relevant educational authorities in their jurisdiction. This may involve passing exams, completing training programs, or meeting other requirements set by the authorities.

  • Management Skills: Strong management and organizational skills are essential for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the school, managing staff, and implementing policies and procedures.

  • Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, are necessary for effectively communicating with staff, students, parents, and other stakeholders.

  • Problem-Solving Abilities: Head teachers should be able to identify issues or challenges within the school and develop effective solutions to address them.

  • Interpersonal Skills: The ability to build positive relationships with staff, students, parents, and members of the community is important for fostering a supportive and inclusive school environment.

  • Commitment to Education: A strong commitment to education and a passion for helping students succeed are essential qualities for head teachers.
