Job Description
The Culinary Manager will be responsible for leading field-based culinary operations, ensuring timely food aid delivery, and managing large-scale meal production in challenging environments. This role involves designing culturally appropriate menus, overseeing procurement and logistics, recruiting and training local teams, and ensuring compliance with food safety standards. The position requires extensive travel and the ability to deploy on short notice to crisis-affected areas.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Activation Management
Deploy within four (4) hours’ notice to disaster-affected areas
Lead and manage field-based culinary response teams
Develop and execute response strategies in high-stress environments
Ensure smooth handovers between field teams during activations
Provide regular updates to the Response Director
Culinary Operations
Oversee high-volume meal production with local chef teams
Ensure meals are culturally appropriate and meet WCK’s quality standards
Manage inventory, procurement, and logistics for food supplies
Train and mentor culinary teams and vendor partners
Maintain high standards of food safety and hygiene
Budgeting and Logistics
Collaborate with finance and procurement teams to manage costs and supply chains
Forecast production capacity and ensure timely food delivery
Personnel Management and Training
Recruit, train, and oversee culinary response teams
Provide leadership, mentorship, and performance feedback
Develop professional training programs to enhance culinary capabilities
Community and Stakeholder Engagement
Build strong relationships with local communities
Represent WCK in the field, acting as an ambassador to beneficiaries, partners, and media
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Required:
Ability to spend up to 70% of the time in the field
Must live within one hour of an international airport
Bachelor's degree or 5+ years of experience in fast-paced, high-pressure environments (military, emergency response, culinary, humanitarian, or event management)
Experience leading, training, and managing large teams in dynamic settings
Strong negotiation, diplomacy, and decision-making skills in crisis situations
Physical fitness and ability to work long hours in extreme conditions
Strong mental resilience and emotional intelligence to handle high-stress situations
Cultural awareness and ability to work effectively with diverse communities
Fluency in English (proficiency in Arabic, French, or Turkish is a plus)
Valid driver’s license and passport
