Job Description
The Community Oral Health Officer will be responsible for providing dental care services and implementing oral health education programs. The ideal candidate will carry out procedures such as dental examinations, cleanings, fluoride treatments, tooth extractions, and basic dental restorations. They will also take part in outreach activities to raise awareness on oral hygiene, particularly in underserved communities. The COHO must work in compliance with national dental health regulations and ensure all services are patient-focused and of high quality.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Perform oral examinations and diagnose dental conditions.
Administer preventive dental care including cleanings, fluoride treatments, and oral hygiene advice.
Conduct simple restorative and curative dental procedures.
Participate in community oral health awareness and outreach programs.
Maintain accurate records of patient history and treatment plans.
Ensure compliance with safety, hygiene, and infection control protocols.
Provide patient education on good oral hygiene practices.
Support referral processes for advanced dental procedures.
Collaborate with the wider medical team for integrated patient care.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Diploma in Community Oral Health.
Registered and licensed by the Oral Health Association of Kenya (OHAK) or the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC).
Valid certification in Basic Life Support (BLS).
Minimum of two (2) years' relevant experience.
Proficient in using computer applications.
Strong communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
