Climate Resilience Coordinator job at Aga Khan Foundation

The Coordinator is responsible for leading implementation of climate change initiatives focused on awareness, adaptation, and mitigation for community resilience in Kampala, Arua and Busoga Region. She/He will support mobilization and training of key stakeholders including community members, district officials, cultural leaders, farmers, extension workers, green champions among others to undertake climate change adaptation, mitigation, and resilience activities. The specific initiatives will include community-level climate resilience planning, regenerative agricultural practices, rainwater harvesting, and community micro-forests.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Lead development of workplans and budgets in collaboration with AKF technical advisors and implementing partners.
Support field-based climate change green champions including extension workers, volunteer assistants, women and youth to develop and implement robust community level climate resilience plans.
Support activities for mobilizing farmers through existing farmer groups, community-based organizations, and key stakeholders to participate in climate resilience initiatives.
Provide technical support to community members to participate in processes for promoting village-level community climate resilience planning.
Train targeted farmers on packages for promoting regenerative agricultural practices based on sustainable agricultural curriculums.
Train and support target farmers particularly women and youth to adapt sustainable rearing practices for small livestock (chicken, goats, beekeeping, fishponds among others for enhancing agricultural productivity and improving the nutrition of rural households.
Support identification of sites, recommendable tree species, development of procurement plans and actual planting of at least 75 community micro-forests across the targeted districts.
Train and support community members to establish rainwater harvesting and micro-irrigation technologies.
Train and support targeted smallholder farmers, to use mobile-based agriculture applications for accessing extension, advisory services and market-related information.
Regularly update training materials in collaboration with technical advisors and the key implementing partners.
Prepare, present, and submit weekly, monthly, and quarterly progress reports to immediate supervisor and other key stakeholders.
Work with M&E specialists to develop clear indicators for demonstrating impact of the various climate resilience approaches implemented in the targeted communities.
QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES
Bachelor’s degree in community development, agriculture, natural Resource management, sustainable development, or related courses.
A post graduate diploma or Masters’ degree is added advantage.
Experience of grants management and program development (Able to leverage on pilot projects to forester scale up of climate resilience portfolio)
Previous experience of working on similar climate resilience initiatives, at least 4 years.
Excellent organizational and time management skills
Familiarity of Ms word, Ms Excel, PowerPoint among others
Good command of English, both oral and written
Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment is required.
